This ‘n That

Belated photo

I finally have a photo of the shawlette mentioned in my last post. I cannot get a very good photo with it OTN because it is on a fairly short cable so I cannot spread it out. When I have a little more knit I will switch cables and get a better shot. It is really knitting up nicely and I am looking forward to getting it done. I may have to make two – one for myself and one for a Christmas gift.

Christmas knitting.

I have almost decided what to knit for everyone for Christmas. My first Christmas knit project to start is Irish Hiking Scarves. I am planning to knit these two at a time with stash yarn until I am sick of cables. That should give me a nice gift stash to work from. Here are the first two still OTN

Blog contest winner

Thank you to everyone who helped me choose knitting patterns for my Christmas list. I think I have everything worked out now. I entered everyone who posted a comment into a random list generator to chose the winner for my contest (I liked the “nerdyness” of using the random list generator and it prevented me from any accidental bias.) The winner is Anita. She will receive a skein of Knit Picks Bare Peruvian Wool fingering weight. I will dye it for her if she would like me to do so. Anita please email me with your snail address and your preference of undyed or dyed yarn and I will put your prize in the mail. If I don’t hear from you by Wednesday midnight (CST) the second name on the Random List Generator list will be given a shot at the prize. Thanks again for everyone who participated. You have been very very helpful.

Christmas Knitting List
And for those of you who were holding your breath to find out what my family is getting for gifts or for those who were wondering what to do for their own family, here is the preliminary list subject to change on a whim

  3. BIL2(computer nerd) – Space Invaders Scarf or BMP socks
  4. SIL1 (pharmacist) – Irish Hiking Scarf
  5. SIL2 (teacher turned SAHM) – Fetching
  6. Niece – jury is still out but maybe Washcloths or a scarf and matching hat or mitts.
  7. Nephew 6 – Mittens
  8. Aunt 80-something – Fuzzy feet
  9. Nephew 18 in college – Irish Hiking Scarf
  10. Nephew 3 – Mittens or Norberta
  11. Niece 9 months – Finger Puppets

    Hi there
I googled the shawlette and got your blog entry. Thanks to your error(!) and the explanation of what you did, I have at last worked out how to do the beginning of this shawl. I felt sick with the feeling of complete helplessness in the face of this task. Hurrah, like a lightbulb over my head I at last see what to do, so a very big THANK YOU to you!!!!!

What a great list of gifts. I think the Luna Moth Shawl is a fantastic idea. I am knitting a shawl for my grandmother for Christmas right now. Thinking the Irish Hiking Scarf is a keeper too.

I emailed you at your gmail account. The link on this blog didn’t work so I went to your website and used that link. Thanks again. I am so excited.
