Learn to Knit at WWKIP Day
Description
Learn the basics while enjoying World Wide Knit in Public Day. You will learn the knitted cast on and knit stitch and if time permits the bind off.
Project will be a basic garter stitch dishcloth. You will receive a printed tutorial and pattern to take home with you. And if you don’t finish your project, the instructor will be happy to meet you on another day to help you finish your project.
Materials needed
- One 100 – 125 yd/91 – 110 m skein of worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. Suggested yarns – Pisgah Peaches and Creme or Lily Sugar ‘n Cream (available locally from Wal-Mart, Michaels or Hobby Lobby).
- One pair of US 8/5.0 mm 10-inch long single point knitting needles OR one set of US 8/5.0 mm circular knitting needles. If size 8/5.0 mm is not available, you can substitute a US 7/4.5 mm.
- One tapestry needle or other needle with a large eye (for weaving in ends).
Beginning Knitting
Description
A beginning knitting class using dishcloths as a way to teach the beginning stitches of knitting. You will learn cast on, knit, purl, cast/bind off, basic pattern reading and, if time permits, beginning increases and decreases. You will be provided with a written tutorial along with three dishcloth patterns to take home with you.
Class Length
Three 1.5 hour classes.

Intermediate Knitting
Description
An intermediate knitting class using dishcloths as a way to more advanced techniques of knitting. You will need to know: cast on, knit, purl, cast/bind off, basic pattern reading. You will learn: k2tog, ssk, yo, simple lace and simple cables. You will be provided with a written tutorial along with three dishcloth patterns to take home with you.
Three 1.5 hour classes.
Materials Needed
- Three 100 – 125 yd/91 – 110 m skeins of worsted weight 100% cotton yarn, (one skein of yarn per pattern). Suggested yarns – Pisgah Peaches and Creme or Lily Sugar ‘n Cream (available locally from Wal-Mart, Michaels or Hobby Lobby).

- 350 – 400 yd/320 – 366 m fingering weight sock yarn.
- One long (32- 40 in/81 – 102 cm) US 1/2.25 mm circular needle with a flexible cable. You will want to avoid Boye needles for this one because the cables are too stiff.
- One tapestry needle
- Two stitch markers
Intermediate Sock Knitting – Two-at-a-Time
- 350 – 400 yd/320 – 366 m fingering weight sock yarn.
- One each 16 & 24 in/41 & 61 cm US 1/2.25 mm circular needles OR one long (32- 40 in/81 – 102 cm) US 1/2.25 mm circular needle with a flexible cable. You will want to avoid Boye needles for this one because the cables are too stiff.
