I completed the second sock MUCH faster than the first one. I was able to finish most of it from memory without having to refer to the tutorial. I am still having a bit of trouble with the kichener stitch but it is definitely a technique that will be worth learning. I just wish I could see what I am doing wrong on the last stitch. I have ended up with a loop on the last stitch both times and I don’t know why. I stitched the last sock slowly and deliberately hoping that I would see what I was doing wrong but as far as I can tell I am doing it exactly like the directions.
As you can see, I already have my second pair underway. This pair is for a friend in the colors of his favorite sports team. As you can see I have a few thread ends to clip and weave. I have also purchased yarn for the next two pairs after this one. Socks are great fun. I really like the portability of this project.

The dpns aren’t too bad once you get past the first four or five rows. Those first few rows are seriously awkward though. I was afraid I was going to poke out an eye or that all my stitches were going to fall off. Once you learn to ignore the needles you aren’t actually stitching on it becomes pretty easy. I highly recommend it as a technique to learn. I had better success using bamboo or plastic needles when first starting with dpns. The aluminum needles tend to be more slippery so you are more likely to drop stitches when you are first starting out.

great job on the socks.. my first pair were the knitty ‘cut your teeth’ socks.. and boy it was a mouthful to chew considering I had just learned to knit. I second mimi’s suggestion… I learned to kitchner when making wool soakers for my son #2. I use it a lot now… it’s a great thing to have in your stitch repertoire!

Tabitha, If you go to http://www.knittinghelp.com. They have a video that walks your thru the kitchener stitch. you can poause it and reaplay as many times as possible. That’s the way I learned. You did an outstanding job on your socks!!!!!! Love the color.
