More Catching Up

I promised in the last post that I would fill you in on the latest knitting, so here goes. I have been knitting chemo hats for a teenager in the area. These have been a fun project. I tried a variety of patterns so I didn’t get bored.

First up is Robin’s Egg Blue hat by Rachel Iufer

It is a quick and simple knit though I think I will do different decreases should I knit is again. It was really fun picking out the giant button. The pattern called for a larger one but that is what was available and I think it works nicely.

The next one is Odessa from Grumperina

I adore this pattern. It is my favorite of the bunch. I worked it without the beads because the recipient isn’t a frilly kind of girl. I was also a little concerned that the beads might be uncomfortable when lying in a hospital bed.

It is deceptively simple which is probably what makes me like it so much. That and the fabulous spiraling lines. I will definitely knit this one again with the beads. Thanks Grumperina for a great pattern.

Third in line is Swell from Knitty

I modified this design slightly in that I dropped the earflaps and substituted a ribbing band. I also added the grey stripe for fun and ease of adding the coordinating color.

This was an incredibly interesting pattern and I thoroughly enjoyed the knit. This only my third attempt at stranded colorwork. While I still have a long way to go before perfecting the technique, I am happy to report that my skills are improving. It was fun to watch the color progress from line to line of the chart. The pattern was very well written though I did enlarge the chart to make it easier to read while traveling. It did a good deal of traveling too. Why, this hat went to Mars, the moon and back with me.

Here it is posing at the Experiment Station of the International Space Station. Well, at least a replica of said space station at an exhibit at the US Space and Rocket Center. I can see more stranded colorwork in my future.

Finally, is Ponytail Roll-brim Hat from Knitgrrl

It’s knit in a cotton blend so the brim doesn’t want to stay rolled when it is not on a head.

I obviously don’t include the ponytail hole since this is a chemo hat. Very quick and basic hat.

A quick disclaimer. My hat model has a smaller head than the person for whom these were knit. Hopefully they will fit her better.

I have also got a couple of designs that I am working on. I have completed the design for a skinny scarf. I will have the pattern available a little later but here is a sneak peak.

I have completed a sock design that I am writing up but no photos yet of it. I also have a felted bag near completion. Photos and patterns should be available at the next post. I have a couple of other things on the drawing board too but they aren’t far enough along for me to share much.
